Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire that killed a 5-year-old boy at a Charles County home.
Jayvon Hawkins died from smoke inhalation suffered during the blaze, which broke out at about 6 a.m. Thursday at the home on the 6800 block of Arbor Lane in Bryans Road.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office said Friday evening that the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
Jayvon’s sister, 2-year-old Shayvon Hawkins, was found unconscious at the home. She was hospitalized, but is now alert and expected to recover, the fire marshal’s office said.
Fire officials said no working smoke alarms were located in the home.
The home sustained about $150,000 in damages.
