The Poppy Wall of Honor returned to the National Mall for Memorial Day weekend, with hundreds of thousands of poppies representing the lives of fallen service members since World War I.
USAA facilitated the temporary exhibit, and said the wall serves as a visual tribute and an educational tool, according to a press release.

United Services Automobile Association emphasized that the poppies honor those that sacrificed for American freedoms in a time “where less than half of US adults understand the significance of the holiday [Memorial Day].”
“The Poppy Wall of Honor stands as a powerful reminder that behind every poppy is a service member who gave their life in service to our country – and a family forever changed by that sacrifice,” said Juan C. Andrade, president and CEO of USAA.

The poppies are stacked top to bottom in a large glass enclosure.

“Memorial Day is a time to pause, reflect and honor those who never came home. We share a responsibility to remember their service and the freedoms they helped protect,” Andrade said.
Visitors can see the Poppy Wall of Honor through 6 p.m. on Sunday.
