O’Malley taps Va. official

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has snatched an official from across the Potomac to lead the state’s troubled Department of Juvenile Services.

Sam Abed, chief deputy director for the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, will serve as the new secretary for the Maryland department, O’Malley announced on Monday.

Abed worked at the Virginia agency for roughly five years.
