The Missouri Republican Party is rejecting a state candidate’s filing fee over his “vile” past statements.
The move is a rebuke of Steve West, who again is vying to represent the GOP in the state House of Representatives’s 15th District.

West has been accused of sharing antisemitic, Islamophobic, and other hate-filled messages on a radio show he hosted. His daughter Emily discouraged voters from voting for her father in an interview with the Kansas City Star in 2018.
“He’s made multiple comments that are racist and homophobic and how he doesn’t like the Jews,” his daughter said at the time.
“West’s past statements are vile and conflict with the fundamental values of our platform. The Missouri Republican Party believes there is no room for hate or divisiveness and the Missouri Republican Party will not associate with anyone who promotes those abhorrent ideas,” the party wrote in a statement.

“Hitler was right about what was taking place in Germany,” West said during a 2017 segment of his KCXL radio show, as reported by the Kansas City Star.
West pushes back against the criticism on his campaign website.
“My opponent and much of the press has called me a bigot, and a homophobe. I see through it and it doesn’t bother me. It only steels my resolve,” a description page on West’s site reads.

West previously ran for the same seat in 2018 and 2020 and won the Republican primary both times before losing in the general election. In 2018, he won the primary with 49.5% of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.
Several top Missouri Republicans condemned West’s 2020 run when he entered the field.
“Steve West’s shocking and vile comments do not reflect the position of the Missouri Republican Party or indeed of any decent individual,” then-House Speaker Elijah Haahr, Majority Leader Rob Vescovo, and Speaker Pro Tem John Wiemann said at the time in a joint statement obtained by the Missouri Times.
West did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
