NEW YORK (AP) — Police have arrested a homeless man on charges he vandalized a Brooklyn memorial to the police officers and firefighters who died in the World Trade Center attacks.

Police were examining surveillance video after someone smeared white paint on the Wall of Remembrance at MCU Park in Coney Island Friday night.

The ballpark is home to the minor-league Brooklyn Cyclones.

On Saturday police arrested 58-year-old Elliot Baez on a charge of criminal mischief. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.

The New York Post reported (http://bit.ly/1rk7Y15 ) that the vandal appeared to single out the portrait of Officer Moira Smith by smearing paint around it.

Smith was the only female NYPD officer who died on Sept. 11.
