WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) — Here’s a chance to name a Maryland waterway.

The Monocacy (mah-NAH’-kah-see) Scenic River Citizens Advisory Board is holding a contest to name six unnamed tributaries of the stream in Carroll and Frederick counties.

Board Chairman Brian Cronin says it’s a way to engage people in caring about the river.

The board has posted information about the contest on its website, http://ccgovernment.carr.org/ccg/monocacy .

Cronin says the board will accept nominations through Dec. 31. The winning suggestions will be forwarded to the U.S. Geological Survey, the official keeper of geographical names.
