Missouri Governor-elect Preaches Unity after Wife Robbed at Gunpoint

Missouri governor-elect Eric Greitens preached a message of forgiveness and unity Tuesday after his wife was robbed at gunpoint the day before outside a St. Louis coffee shop. Greitens’s wife, Sheena, was unharmed, and three teenagers are now in custody in relation to the incident.

“Faith teaches us that we must forgive, and that’s what Sheena and I plan to do. And we want those young men to know that today. And we want their families to know that today,” Greitens said to assembled press outside his home. “I plan to sit down with their mothers and their families to discuss what we can do together to make sure that every family in every community in the state of Missouri can go home at night and look at their kids and know that they’ll be safe.”

Greitens admitted he was “glad that the men and women of law enforcement found these young men before I did.” He was joined by Sheena, who said she was grateful to law enforcement in a brief statement.

The 42-year-old former Navy SEAL, Purple Heart recipient, and founder of the veterans organization The Mission Continues was elected to his first public office in November, defeating Democrat Chris Koster 51 to 45 percent.
