Man who posted 3D-printable gun blueprints facing sexual assault charges

The man who posted blueprints for 3D-printable firearms online over the summer is facing charges of sexual assault.

According to an arrest affidavit filed Wednesday, 30-year-old Cody Wilson is facing the charges in Travis County from an incident last month, the Statesman reported.

Jail records indicate that Wilson has not been booked into Travis County Jail as of Wednesday morning.

Wilson designed and built a 3D-printed plastic gun in 2013, and made the blueprints for the gun available to the public online.

When the State Department removed the post, Wilson sued and said his company, Defense Distributed, had the First Amendment right to distribute the plans.

Recently the topic has gained more attention as gun control advocates push for more regulation. The Trump administration this year settled with Wilson and agreed to allow him to post the plans for 3D-printable weapon designs.
