Bill Nye the Science Guy is serious about the threats of global warming.
So much so he is dropping F-bombs and lighting a globe of the Earth on fire to illustrate his warning.
“By the end of this century, if emissions keep rising, the average temperature on Earth could go up another 4-to-8 degrees,” Nye said. “What I’m saying is: The planet’s on f—ing fire. There are a lot of things we could do to put it out. Are any of them free? No. Of course not. Nothing’s free, you idiots. Grow the f— up. You’re not children anymore. I didn’t mind explaining photosynthesis to you when you were 12, but you’re adults now and this is an actual crisis. Got it?”
Nye, famous for his childrens’ science show in the mid-’90s, appeared on HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” with host John Oliver, who was discussing climate change and some of the more abstract aspects of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal. He also highlighted the criticism of the proposal. Nye was brought on to discuss ways to cut carbon emissions.
“I’m going to explain the complicated logic behind carbon pricing, but first, safety glasses on,” Nye said. “When something costs more, people buy less of it. Safety glasses off.”
Although the Green New Deal has not made any headway in Congress, Oliver argued the overarching goal of the plan was a success because it sparked a conversation about climate change.
