Pentagon: Soldier serving in Afghanistan died in non-combat incident

The Pentagon announced late Monday the death of Sgt. 1st Class Robert R. Boniface, who had been supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

The 34-year-old San Luis Obispo, Calif., resident died on March 19 in the Logar Province of Afghanistan. Boniface died from a non-combat incident and the cause of death is being investigated.

Boniface had been assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
