First lady Melania Trump has become more vocal about the protests roiling the country in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
On Tuesday, she asked protesters to abide by the curfews in their cities as the size of protests across the country swelled.
“As the night approaches I urge all citizens to obey the curfews, clear the streets, & stay inside to spend time w loved ones. All cities, communities & citizens deserve to be kept safe & that can only be done if we work together towards healing & peace,” she tweeted.

A day earlier, she called for peace after protests outside the White House turned violent. She said Friday there was “no reason for violence.”
The first lady has taken a softer tone compared to her husband, who has threatened to unleash the military on protesters. He has also criticized Democratic officials for not quelling riots in their states and cities.
Protests demanding justice over the death of Floyd have entered their second week and have gained momentum, despite crackdowns. Floyd, an unarmed black man, died after a white police officer in Minneapolis kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes as Floyd said he couldn’t breathe. The officer, Derek Chauvin, has been fired and charged with killing Floyd.
