David Hogg says he’ll continue wearing a mask outdoors so people don’t mistake him for a conservative

Liberal activist David Hogg responded to relaxed mask guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by saying he will continue to wear a mask so people don’t think he’s a conservative.

“I feel the need to continue wearing my mask outside even though I’m fully vaccinated because the inconvenience of having to wear a mask is more than worth it to have people not think I’m a conservative,” the Parkland shooting survivor tweeted Friday.

In a follow-up tweet, Hogg said, “I feel like this is something you can especially understand if you’re in a very liberal area where 99% of the people you see are wearing masks.”

Hogg’s tweet was retweeted and liked thousands of times and prompted sharp criticism from conservatives.

“Any time the obnoxious Mr. Hogg is inconvenienced is a good time,” former congresswoman Nan Hayworth tweeted. “Even better if he wore three masks to REALLY distance himself from conservatives.”

“Masks are the MAGA hats of the Blue team,” the Libertarian Party of Texas tweeted.

“David Hogg nailed it,” journalist Carmine Sabia tweeted. “This is the reason they want to continue to wear masks. They want to signal to everyone that they are heroes.”

On Thursday, the CDC announced that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks in almost all situations, including walking around outside.

“As great as this announcement is today, we don’t want to let up,” President Joe Biden warned. “The safest thing for the country is for everyone to get vaccinated.”
