SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A San Antonio woman has been found guilty of neglecting her two daughters, who doctors say were starving and dehydrated.
It took jurors about 30 minutes on Wednesday to convict 24-year-old Kayela McClintick on two counts of injuring by omission.
Bexar County officials say authorities found McClintick’s 6- and 2-year-old daughters abused in 2012. The younger daughter was hospitalized with a serious bodily injury and diagnosed with starvation. The older daughter was found in a closet and diagnosed with dehydration and malnutrition.
Doctors testified the younger daughter weighed 17 ½ pounds when she was found.
McClintick’s attorney says his client didn’t know she was harming the children.
She faces up to life in prison. The punishment phase of the trial begins Thursday.
