Alexandria to go after drunk drivers this weekend

Alexandria will be cracking down on drunk drivers Friday night.

City police will be out in force from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, pulling over drivers and checking for alcohol or drug use.

The maximum penalty in Virginia for a first drunk driving conviction is a year in jail, a $2,500 fine and driver’s license suspension for a year.
