Kwame Brown’s successful campaign for D.C. Council chairman is now registering $554 on-hand after an initial report filed last week showed it was running a cash deficit of nearly $14,000.
When The Washington Examiner reported the negative balance last week, Brown said there was “no debt” and that “the Office of Campaign Finance is working to reconcile the amount shown in the January 31st report as negative cash on hand.”
On Monday, the filing showing the positive cash-on-hand came in the form of an amendment from Brown’s campaign, not the campaign finance office.
“OCF worked with us to reconcile it,” Brown said Monday. “This is common when you close out a campaign. … [Staff members] sometimes key in the wrong number” when they file electronically.
He said there will be no more amendments filed to change the Jan. 31 campaign finance report.
Meanwhile, the chairman campaign filed a third amendment to a Dec. 10, 2010 report.
Previous amendments to that report have varied widely, showing anywhere from about $8,500 cash-on-hand to a nearly $34,000 cash deficit. The latest amendment shows Brown with $1,629 on-hand at the end of the December period, which now matches numbers on his Jan. 31 report.
