Former Florida governor Jeb Bush said he would “whup” leading Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton if he faced her next November. Speaking Thursday afternoon at the Jewish Republican Coalition’s presidential forum in Washington, Bush addressed a receptive audience that gave him multiple standing ovations. One of his best received lines was about what kind of general-election candidate he would make.
“Should I win this nomination, I will take it to Hillary Clinton, and I will whup her,” Bush said.
According to the Real Clear Politics average of polls, Clinton as a 1.4-point advantage over Bush in a hypothetical match-up.
Bush has struggled in recent months in the polls, falling to fifth place in national GOP primary polls. Perhaps in recognition of his position in those polls, Bush refused to answer a question at the RJC event about potential people he would nominate to be his secretary of state.
“It’s a little ambitious for me. I’m going to win New Hampshire first,” he said.
