The man suspected of slashing women’s buttocks in Fairfax County shopping malls last year has been arrested in Peru, Fairfax County officials confirmed Saturday.

Police said 40-year-old Johnny Guillen Pimental is in Peruvian police custody, and officials in the U.S. are now working to extradite him, Fairfax County spokesman Jeff Schaney said. It is unknown how long that will take.

Pimental is suspected in a series of nine bizarre butt slashings in retail stores last year. The victims were all young women in their teens or 20s. One woman received a 1.5 inch gash July 25 at the Forever 21 store in Fair Oaks mall.

Police said in December that they thought Pimental had fled to Peru.
