“Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe said Wednesday that while he doesn’t necessarily disagree with comparing Donald Trump to Voldemort, there is one stark difference between the two.
“I sort of think Donald Trump might not be as ideologically pure as Voldemort,” he told Britain’s Sky News. “My thinking on Trump is that he feels like more of an opportunist — I don’t know know how much of this stuff he’s saying he actually really, really believes.
“He hides behind the sort of thing of, ‘Oh I’m just an entertainer’ … That comparison is certainly not without its merits,” he continued.
Trump has been compared to many fictional characters throughout his presidential campaign, including “Back to the Future” villain Biff Tannen and “Idiocracy” President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.
The Voldemort comparisons have come up more than once, particularly related to Trump’s Mexican border wall and Muslim ban being similar to Voldemort’s quest to expunge the wizarding world of all wizards and witches not of “pure blood.”
“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling first brought up Voldemort in the context of Trump in December 2015, when she tweeted that “Voldemort was nowhere near as bad” as the Republican nominee.
The idea caught on with none other than Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who compared Trump to a “Death Eater,” disciples of Voldemort hellbent on helping him complete his mission.
