A driver in Portland, Oregon, struck multiple pedestrians in a major incident on Monday, according to local authorities.
Portland’s Fire and Rescue Department said one person is in critical condition and four to five others sustained noncritical injuries. They were struck across a 20-block stretch, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

The woman in critical condition is in her 70s, according to the Oregonian. A witness to the incident, Larry Wolfe, said he was waiting to see the woman for an appointment when she was hit by a vehicle. He reports that the car came back and hit her a second time before speeding away.
Another witness reported that he saw a Honda Element speed up and hit a woman who was crossing the street.
“On January 25, 2020, at about 1:02 p.m., Portland Police began receiving calls about a vehicle that struck pedestrians and vehicles along several blocks west from Southeast 33rd Avenue and Stark Street down to Southeast 13th Avenue,” police said in a statement.
No suspect has yet been identified by authorities. While the type of vehicle used in the incident has not been identified by police, multiple witnesses reported that it was an SUV.
