House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes will “never” reveal to his fellow committee members the source of the raw intelligence information which he claims allowed him to know that members of the Trump transition team had been “incidentally” caught and identified in conversations during routine surveillance of foreign agents.
Nunes, R-Calif., was asked in an interview with Fox News if he would share the source with committee members, and he replied, “We will never reveal those sources and methods.”
The reporter pressed, asking, “Even to other members of the committee?”
“Nope. Never.” Nunes replied.
Nunes has faced increasing criticism in recent days, especially after the revelation that he met the source to review the documents on White House grounds the day before revealing what he knew to the press.
Several Democrats have called for him to recuse himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
When asked in the same interview if he would recuse himself, Nunes said, “I still don’t know why, and if you guys gave me a reason to recuse myself, I might consider it.”
Democrats have argued that the information Nunes shared was meant to shore up the credibility of the infamous Tweet by President Trump in which he claimed to have been “wiretapped” by President Obama.
Nunes and his fellow Republicans are arguing that the leak of a transcript of the Mike Flynn phone call, and the possible “unmasking” of Americans incidentally caught in foreign surveillance, shows a troubling pattern that may include criminal actions.
