A U.S. air attack on an al Qaeda camp in western Syria has killed an estimated 100 core members, according to a senior Pentagon official.
The attack occurred around noon Eastern Time (8 p.m. local time) Thursday west of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, and involved a single B-52 bomber and multiple unmanned aircraft, the official said.The B-52 heavy bomber flew from a base in the region, but the Pentagon does not disclose where those planes are forward based.The attack comes a day after a pair U.S. Air Force B-2 stealth bombers flew a 30-plus-hour mission from Missouri to deliver a punishing strike on two Islamic State camps in Libya.It is estimated as many 80 ISIS fighters died in that Wednesday attack.
