Texas deputy on admin leave after fatal shooting

BLOOMBURG, Texas (AP) — An East Texas sheriff’s deputy has fatally shot a man who was being sought on a felony warrant.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened Sunday in a rural area near Bloomburg. The name of the 33-year-old man who died and further details on the warrant weren’t immediately released.

Chief Deputy Roy Barker says the deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of the incident. Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.

The sheriff’s department did not immediately return a message Monday.

Bloomburg is a town of about 400, located 175 miles northeast of Dallas.
