Ad blitz favoring Sessions for attorney general targets vulnerable Democrats

The right-leaning Judicial Crisis Network is launching a “mid-six figure” ad blitz on Friday boosting Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions’ bid for U.S. attorney general in three states featuring key election battles in the 2018 mid-terms.

The new 30-second ad supporting Sessions will air on TV in Washington, D.C., and Indiana, Missouri, and North Dakota on Friday. Indiana, Missouri, and North Dakota are three predominantly red states that feature Democratic senators whose seats will be up for grabs in 2018. President-elect Trump won these three states en route to the White House in November.

The ad itself is a 30-second teaser trailer for a longer seven-minute video that the Judicial Crisis Network will post at ConfirmSessions.com, a website set up to combat criticism of Sessions.

“Senator Sessions is a good man whose service to his state makes it clear that he will turn DOJ around and make it an agency that every American can be proud of,” said Carrie Severino, Judicial Crisis Network chief counsel and policy director, in a statement. “After 8 years of lawlessness and politics at the DOJ, Sessions will bring change. Alabamians know about his character and accomplishments, but we wanted to share some highlights of his distinguished career with the rest of America, so we are releasing ‘Getting it Right.'”

Sessions’ confirmation proceedings begin next week, ahead of Trump’s inauguration, before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
