Md. House to hear testimony on bill granting in-state tuition to illegals

A bill that would grant in-state tuition to illegal immigrants at Maryland public universities and colleges is under consideration in the state House of Delegates, following passage in the state Senate.

The House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to hear testimony on the bill in Annapolis on Wednesday.

The bill, which passed in a 27-20 vote in the Senate, requires that undocumented students live and file tax returns in Maryland for three years before they can qualify for the lower tuition rates.

The measure would cost Maryland taxpayers roughly $3.5 million by fiscal 2016, according to an independent fiscal analysis.
