A Howard County police officer was charged with driving under the influence after he slammed his cruiser into a police trailer, damaging other vehicles, according to police.
An investigation found that Officer Tyronne Cole Jr., 25, was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the trailer parked at the southern district station in Scaggsville at the start of his 11 p.m. shift Sunday.
“The extent of the damage has not been determined, but the collision appears to have affected multiple vehicles,” said police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.
Police would not release Cole?s blood-alcohol level. The blood-alcohol level for driving under the influence is .08.
No one was hurt, police said.
Cole?s police powers have been suspended, and he has been assigned administrative duties while his case proceeds through the judiciary.
Cole, who was been with the force since 2004, will be subject to criminal proceedings, followed by a formal inquiry from the police department?s internal affairs division.
The maximum penalty for driving under the influence in Maryland is one year in jail or a $1,000 fine.
