The bodies of two Texas State University roommates were found Sunday morning in what appears to be a murder-suicide.
Officers were dispatched to a San Marcos, Texas, residence around 9:30 a.m. when a friend of the two called police after discovering the scene at the house. When police arrived, they found one of the men with multiple gunshot wounds dead in the house and another male deceased in the backyard.
Matthew Pfluger and Connor Shannon, both 24, were described as close friends and students at Texas State, according to officials. Early findings in the investigation point to the deaths being a murder-suicide perpetrated by Pfluger.
Authorities say that it appears Pfluger shot his roommate multiple times before attempting to kill himself with a knife. When the attempt was unsuccessful, it appears Pfluger went into the back yard and shot himself in the head.
Information on when the shooting occurred or what type of firearm was used has not been made public.

Kristy Stark, director of communications for the City of San Marcos, told the Washington Examiner Tuesday that she couldn’t elaborate on the case beyond what is publicly available. She said there would likely be a toxicology report done and noted that friends of Pfluger said he had issues with depression.
“There had been a history of depression, I believe, with the young man,” Stark said, “and that’s pretty much all of the information we had received, and that was information that friends had told the investigators.”
“We’re not really elaborating on this one — it’s a very, very sad situation,” she added.
San Marcos, a college town of about 60,000 people, has already had three homicides since the start of 2019.
