Florida state attorney says Orlando should be wiped off map

A Florida assistant state attorney was suspended Friday after saying Orlando has no “redeeming quality” and should be wiped off the map after last week’s shooting.

“Downtown Orlando has no bottom,” Assistant State Attorney Kenneth Lewis posted on Facebook last Sunday night after the horrific murder of 49 patrons at the Pulse nightclub in downtown Orlando. “The entire city should be leveled. It is void of any redeeming quality. … It is void of culture. If you live down there you do it at your own risk and at your own peril.”

Angela Starke, a spokeswoman for the State Attorney’s Office, said the post violated social media policy, and attorney Lewis is suspended pending a review.

“Mr. Lewis violated the SAO9 social media policy. The social media policy was adopted and implemented on Feb. 20, 2015, as part of SAO9’s code of conduct. Every employee is required to sign the policy. Failure to comply can result in discipline up to and including termination,” Starke added.
