Prince William County police have identified the man who died in a weekend car crash.

Police said 42-year-old Dennis Lockwood, of Triangle, died after his Mazda Miata hit a tree and overturned on Joplin Road in Triangle. A passerby saw his overturned vehicle and called police at about 11:40 a.m. Monday.

Lockwood was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a 51-year-old Triangle woman, was hospitalized with serious injuries. She is expected to survive, police said Tuesday.

Police said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. It’s still unknown whether alcohol use was involved.

The crash happened between mile markers 20 and 21 on Joplin Road.
