A U.S. marshal was shot on Thursday while trying to apprehend a fugitive in Baltimore, authorities said.

The deputy, who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, was serving an arrest warrant for a man accused of attempted murder and armed robbery, Commander of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force Don Snider told CNN. The deputy has yet to be identified by name, and the suspected trigger man, who also remains unidentified, was killed by law enforcement after he opened fire on a SWAT team.
