Montgomery County police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night.

Police said the checkpoint will take place from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 3 a.m. on Sunday.

The enforcement initiative focuses on identifying and arresting impaired drivers.

Police officials and safety advocates say checkpoints are one of the most effective ways to curb drunk driving.

Last year, there were 891 traffic crashes caused by drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol in Montgomery County, according to data from the Maryland State Highway Administration.
