Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders lauded the Supreme Court for narrowly voting to strike down a major abortion law, saying that the ruling was a “decisive victory for women across the country.”
The court ruled 5-3 Monday that a Texas 2013 law was unconstitutional because it restricted a woman’s access to abortion. The law required abortion clinics to meet requirements of surgical centers and doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

Sanders said in a statement that the ruling reaffirmed that access to a “safe and legal abortion is a woman’s constitutional right, a right that cannot be blocked by extreme Republican politicians.”
Sanders has yet to suspend his campaign for the Democratic nomination, despite his opponent Hillary Clinton clinching the requisite number of delegates to win the party’s nod.
