SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A University of Utah chemistry professor has received the highest honor given by the American Chemical Society.

Peter Stang was named the 2013 recipient of the Priestley Medal.

Stang has pioneered in the field of supramolecular chemistry the last 20 years and been a member of the university’s faculty for more than 40 years.

Last year, President Barack Obama honored Stang with the National Medal of Science at a White House ceremony.

It’s the highest honor that the U.S. government bestows on scientists.
