Former President Barack Obama sent a fundraising email to supporters on Saturday urging them to contribute to Democratic candidates and calling the midterm elections the most important in his lifetime.
“I am not exaggerating when I say this November’s elections are more important than any I can remember in my lifetime,” he wrote. “These elections are a chance to reinvigorate the Democratic Party and make our movement stronger for decades to come.”

The email came after a pivotal hearing on Capitol Hill Thursday in which senators on the Judiciary Committee heard from Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations and also defended himself before the committee.
The Senate is allowing another week before a vote on Kavanaugh as the FBI investigates various allegations, and Republicans have accused Democrats of working to delay the nomination in hopes that they might gain an advantage during the midterm elections.
Obama does not mention the hearing or the Supreme Court in the fundraising email, but writes, “This election isn’t just about beating Republicans, it’s about re-asserting what we stand for as Democrats.”
The email urged supporters to contribute at least $3 to help elect Democrats on Nov. 6. It also contains options to contribute $10, $25, $50, $100, or “another amount.”
“I can’t tell you how encouraged I’ve been by the crop of Democratic candidates running for everything from school board to the United States Senate,” Obama wrote in the email. “Our party has never had a slate of candidates this young, diverse, or female.”
