BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Buffalo are looking for the driver of a car that sped away after hitting a 2-year-old girl who had run into a street on the city’s east side.
Officials say Alicea Xayeliz (uh-LEE’-see-uh zeye-EL’-ehz) remains in critical condition at Women and Children’s Hospital two days after she was struck by a car whose driver left the scene of the accident.
Witnesses told police the girl was playing with other children Sunday night on a grassy area along Floss Avenue when she darted into the street. Police say she was hit by an older-style, white Chevrolet Impala with tinted windows.
Witnesses say the car’s driver stopped, then sped away.
Officials are asking anyone with information on the car or its driver to contact police.
