The U.S. Navy destroyer Cole responded to a distress call from an Iranian-flagged boat in the Gulf of Oman on Friday, the Navy said Monday.

The approach and assistance operation took place two days before Iran launched a ballistic missile approximately 140 miles east of Tehran on Sunday.
