Montgomery Councilman Knapp won’t seek re-election

Montgomery County Councilman Mike Knapp, D-Germantown, announced Tuesday that he won’t seek re-election.

The two-term councilman said he will work in the biotechnology field. He was formerly a biotechnology consultant and business development executive at Celera Genomics, a firm founded by scientist J. Craig Venter.

Knapp played a major role in the passage of the Germantown, White Flint and Great Seneca Science Corridor master plans.

He was perhaps the most vocal critic of the recently passed $4.3 billion budget, saying the county wasn’t reducing its spending enough in the wake of a $1 billion budget shortfall.
