Top conservative: Ryan handling of healthcare bill ‘deeply flawed’

House Freedom Caucus founding member Jim Jordan punched back at House GOP leadership on Sunday for its “deeply flawed” procedural process to pass the American Health Care Act last month.

“Good process leads to good policy and I think translates into good politics and that didn’t happen here,” Jordan told CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper.

“Maybe instead of hiding the bill away and rolling it out four weeks ago and having hearings where there are no witnesses who actually testify, where there are no amendments allowed to be offered, no amendments accepted, maybe we need to do the process right. And if we do, we will develop a product that more than 17 percent of the country actually approves of,” Jordan proposed.

Jordan, who formerly chaired both the House Freedom Caucus and Republican Study Committee, said it’s these types of recommendations that Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., was trying to make, which have provoked President Trump to threaten the Republican’s seat in 2018.

“Justin is a good friend and one of the most principled members of Congress. Frankly, if he is primaried I’m going to do everything I can to help him,” Jordan added.

Jordan said his constituents in Ohio are still waiting on promises he made in recent elections to repeal and replace Obamacare, but that that cannot be done until House conservatives have the best bill possible to put forward.
