Lawyers for Clinton IT aide want immunity deal kept secret

Attorneys for Bryan Pagliano, Hillary Clinton’s former information technology specialist, asked a federal judge Tuesday to keep secret the details of Pagliano’s immunity deal with the Justice Department.

Pagliano was scheduled to be deposed Monday by the conservative watchdog Judicial Watch in a high-profile Freedom of Information Act case.

However, his legal team indicated last week that Pagliano intended to exercise his Fifth Amendment rights and decline to answer any questions.

In response, Judge Emmet Sullivan of U.S. District Court ordered his team to submit a copy of the immunity agreement Pagliano struck with the Justice Department in exchange for his testimony.

Shortly before the deadline to submit that agreement Tuesday, Pagliano’s lawyers requested that the deal be kept under seal.

In a filing with the court, his attorney noted Pagliano had spoken with investigators from the Justice Department as part of their email probe in December 2015, and that the law enforcement agency had granted him “use immunity.

“The potential for self-incrimination here is sufficient to justify Mr. Pagliano’s intention to assert his Fifth Amendment rights,” his lawyer wrote.
