Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis railed against Disney on Tuesday after the company released a statement calling for the repeal of the newly signed “Parental Rights in Education” law, dubbed by liberals as “Don’t Say Gay” despite the absence of the phrase from the text.
“If we would’ve put in the bill that you are not allowed to have curriculum that discussed the oppression of the Uyghurs in China, Disney would’ve endorsed that in a second — and that’s the hypocrisy of this,” he said in a scathing rant.
DeSantis further called Disney’s statement “fundamentally dishonest” and that it crossed the line.
“This state is governed by the interests of the people of the state of Florida. It is not based on the demands of California corporate executives,” he added, adding he strives to be loyal to the citizens of the Sunshine State. “They do not run this state. They do not control this state.”

“Florida’s HB 1557, also known as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, should never have passed and should never have been signed into law. Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country,” the company said in a Monday statement.

DeSantis also slammed “Disney owned ABC” for saying the bill applied to “some grades” rather than specifying kindergarten through third grade, calling it “interesting.”
“Why would they same ‘some grades’ instead of K-3?” he asked. “[It’s] just amazing.”
“BREAKING: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signs controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill into law. The bill bans lessons on sexual orientation or gender identity in some grades,” ABC News tweeted Monday.
