Prince Andrew’s birthday overshadowed by sexual assault case settlement

Prince Andrew turns 62 Saturday, just days after settling his civil sexual assault case brought against him by Virginia Giuffre.

The weekend’s birthday celebrations risk being overshadowed by the prince’s possible banishment from the memorial service of his father, Prince Phillip.

The settlement confirmed the Duke of York is likely never to return to royal duties, according to a report.

Being banned from his father’s Westminster Abbey service would be a massive blow, the report noted.

“The settlement has drawn a line under further humiliation of him, but there’s no way back for him now,” said Mark Stephens, an international reputation lawyer from Howard Kennedy. “I think a bellwether of that is it’s very unlikely he will attend his father’s memorial.”

“I think they understand that he is toxic, and if he goes to these events, it will be seen as a tacit approval and so, whilst it’s quite hard, the royal family can’t be seen to have him at things like the memorial,” Stephens added.

Still, the prince could receive at least £7 million from British taxpayers if he is forced out of grace and favor from his Windsor home.

To get the amount, worth close to $9.5 million, Prince Andrew would be required to forfeit his £30 million Royal Lodge.

The prince is slated to receive close to £7.5 million for the refurbishment he paid for after moving into the 31-bedroom house.
