Former Trump doctor Ronny Jackson running for GOP seat in Texas

Former White House physician Ronny Jackson has filed paperwork to run for Congress in Texas.

Jackson filed to run in Texas’s 13th District, currently held by retiring GOP Rep. Mac Thornberry, on Monday, the filing deadline for the seat that includes much of the state’s panhandle. Thornberry announced in September that he would not seek reelection after his 13th term and 24 years in Congress.

Jackson had reportedly been in contact with several Republicans in Washington, D.C., who are helping GOP candidates run for election in the House. He joins a primary that already has more than half a dozen declared candidates.

After serving as President Trump’s chief physician, Jackson was nominated to be secretary of Veterans Affairs last year. However, he withdrew his nomination over allegations that he had abused colleagues, issued questionable prescriptions, and appeared intoxicated at work. He has denied all the accusations against him.
