The death of a Pasadena toddler who drowned in the family?s swimming pool has been ruled accidental, Anne Arundel authorities said Tuesday.
Dayden Alexander Dunn, 20 months, was found about 7:50 a.m. Sunday in the pool at the house in the 8000 block of Forest Glen Drive, Anne Arundel police said.
Dayden?s parents told police the child crawled into bed with them during the night, but they awoke to find him missing and began searching the house.
Police did not release details of the incident, because “we didn?t feel that there was any need to bring further detriment to the family,” said police spokeswoman Karla Hamner on Tuesday.
“There was absolutely nothing suspicious about the incident,” she added.
Police have not filed charges against Dayden?s parents.
A cousin of Dayden who answered the family?s phone Tuesday said the parents “just want their privacy” as they make funeral arrangements.
The cousin, who declined to give his name, said Dayden was funny, full of personality and “he loved life.”
Dayden?s death is the first such pool-related drowning in Anne Arundel this year, said county fire spokesman Matthew Tobia.
An off-duty fire official responded first and tried performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Tobia said.
Rescue personnel found the child in cardiac arrest without a pulse, and he was flown to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Fire officials said alert systems that measure waves created by someone or something falling in the water can help prevent pool drownings.
Statistics are not kept about the number of drownings each year, but Tobia said pool drownings are rare in the county. Open-water drownings, such as those in the rivers of the Chesapeake Bay, are more frequent.
