Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. shot during carjacking: Police


Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. is recovering after being shot in an apparent carjacking, authorities said Sunday.

Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck confirmed Robinson was the victim in a shooting incident that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on the 1000 block of H Street Northeast. Sternbeck said Robinson was taken to the hospital to treat injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

“Commanders rookie RB Brian Robinson has been shot multiple times in robbery attempt, per @nbcwashington. Sources tell me it’s non life threatening,” Commanders beat reporter J.P. Finlay wrote. “Much more to come.”

The Commanders released a statement late Sunday on the incident.

“We have been made aware that Brian Robinson, Jr. was the victim of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking in Washington, D.C.,” the statement said. “He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital, where Team officials are on-site with him. We ask that you please respect Brian’s privacy at this time.”


Coach Ron Rivera provided an update later in the evening, saying, “I just got done visiting w/Brian. He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers & support. He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best.”
