Rep. Maxine Waters zinged Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the expense of White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who resigned Friday.
“Congratulations Sean Spicer. You’ve got more guts than Jeff Sessions!” the California Democrat said in a tweet Friday, moments after reports surfaced that Spicer resigned from his post in the Trump administration.
Spicer reportedly resigned because of the hiring of Anthony Scaramucci, who was named as the White House communications director earlier Friday. However, rumors have been swirling for months that Spicer was on his way out.
Sessions, meanwhile, is still the head of the Department of Justice, despite rumors that he may resign. Those rumors are part of a fallout from an interview President Trump gave to the New York Times Wednesday.
In the interview, Trump expressed displeasure with Sessions for having recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Had he known Sessions was going to recuse, Trump said he would have never appointed him.
Waters is a vocal critic of Trump and his administration.
