ALEXANDER, N.Y. (AP) — The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says a 23-year-old farm worker has died after becoming trapped in a hay baling machine.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a farm in the town of Alexander shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday and found the victim, 23-year-old Scott Booth Jr. of Attica, trapped in a New Holland round hay baler. He was extricated by members of the Alexander volunteer fire department and was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

Investigators found that Booth and the owner of the farm had been trying to fix a mechanical problem with the baler by lifting the back portion with another tractor. The name of the farm’s owner wasn’t released.
