Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, penned an op-ed Monday claiming that she won’t “sit on my hands waiting for Congress to do something” to protect the ability for women to get abortions.

If something isn’t done immediately, she wrote, “Americans will suffer and may die,” adding, “Most will be poor. A sizable contingent will be women of color.”
