Rat infestation gone, at least for the moment

Ratsliving on the courtyard at Mount Hebron High School are gone ? for now.

“There?s been no new activity, any burrows or nests, which means we think we?ve gotten them,” said school system spokeswoman Patti Caplan on Tuesday.

On Sept. 12, the Howard County school sent students home with a letter to their parents, explaining how pesticides would be applied outside the building.

Reports of rats that week sparked complaints, leading to a joint inspection from the school and Howard County Health Department.

School officials confirmed the evidence of a rat and babies in the courtyard but denied any reached inside the school.
