President Joe Biden expressed disbelief at former President Donald Trump’s hold on the Republican Party, claiming to have spoken to at least five GOP senators who are afraid of clashing with his predecessor.
“Did you ever think one man out of office could intimidate an entire party where they’re unwilling to take any vote contrary to what he thinks should be taken, for fear of being defeated in a primary?” Biden asked reporters Wednesday during his second stand-alone White House press conference.

Biden spent a majority of his press conference blaming Republicans for congressional gridlock despite Democratic dissension being behind his inability to pass his $2 trillion social welfare and climate investment legislation, as well as voting and election reforms.

“I did not anticipate that there would be such a stalwart effort to make sure the most important thing was that President Biden didn’t get anything done,” Biden said. “What are Republicans for? What are they for? Name me one thing they’re for.”
“I’m not asking for castles in the sky,” he added. “I’m asking for practical things the American people have been asking for for a long time — a long time.”

Biden conceded part of his problem was messaging and not being “in the community nearly enough.” He promised a course correction before the 2022 midterm elections, pledging “to be out on the road a lot.”
