NEW YORK (AP) — A suspected drunk driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after police say he struck and killed a man in Queens.
Police say Romulo Mejia of Bradenton, Florida hit an unidentified pedestrian with a rental car in Jackson Heights around 4:30 a.m., Saturday.
They say the 42-year-old has a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated and that he was driving without a license.
Police say Mejia refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He and a 35-year-old female passenger were treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
Witnesses tell local media that the car crashed into a parked car after hitting the pedestrian.
Information on Mejia’s lawyer wasn’t immediately available.
