The State Department said Monday that it has been unable to track down any emails to or from Hillary Clinton’s IT specialist, Bryan Pagliano, during Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.
“The Department has searched for Mr. Pagliano’s email .pst file and has not located one that covers the time period of Secretary Clinton’s tenure,” said State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau, referring to the file extension for folders containing archived emails.
The State Department did, however, locate emails that were sent to or received by Pagliano from after Clinton’s time as secretary of state.
“The Department has located a .pst for Mr. Pagliano’s recent work at the Department as a contractor, but the files are from after Secretary Clinton left the Department,” Trudeau said, and added that the search for Pagliano’s emails was ongoing.
“We are continuing to search for Mr. Pagliano’s emails which the Department may have otherwise retained,” Trudeau said. “We have work to do to improve our records management.”
Pagliano helped set up Clinton’s homebrew email server at her home in Chappaqua, New York, for which she is now under FBI investigation. In March, the Justice Department gave Pagliano immunity for testimony about the ongoing probe.
Clinton has said that she did not send or receive any emails that were “marked classified” at the time, though the State Department has since marked 22 of the emails on her server ‘top secret.’
